Principal's Message

Welcome to the new academic year of 2018!  Last year, we had several meaningful events to celebrate our 60th anniversary and we ended the year by officially opening our heritage gallery by Bro Collin Wee, FSC.  We are indeed very grateful to have the support of our staff, students, parents, alumnus, board, Lasalle Brothers and pioneers.

2018 promises to be a “positive” year as the school is working towards our own framework for positive education.  What is positive education?  According to Geelong Grammar School, who pioneered positive education 10 years ago, “positive education brings together the science of positive psychology with best practice teaching to encourage and support individuals, schools and communities to flourish”.  Positive education focuses on helping students to strengthen their relationships, build positive emotions, enhance personal resilience, promote mindfulness and encourage a healthy lifestyle.    This dovetails nicely with our school’s mission and vision whereby we want our Stephenians to be caring and confident men of integrity and men for others.

For the past two years, we have had many activities and programmes that are very “PosEd” in nature and in 2018, we want to consolidate them into a sustainable framework that will enable us to help our Stephenians to be better prepared for the VUCA world that characterizes the 21st century.  VUCA is an acronym used to describe the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity of general conditions and situations.

Our Stephenians will continue to benefit from enhanced curriculum practices and be given ample opportunities to better appreciate the aesthetics and move towards an enhanced healthy lifestyle through our LLP (Learning for Life Programmes) for Sports and Music.  We will continue to work hard to enhance our Stephenian brand of education through positive education.

I look forward to another great school year in service to our students, parents and community.
