NE COMMEMORATION: RACIAL HARMONY DAY 2020

Racial Harmony Day (21 July) commemorates the prolonged and tumultuous 1964 communal racial riots which began on 21 July and ended only on 3 September that year. It followed Singapore's merger with Malaysia in 1963 and was a key contributory factor to the final separation pf Singapore from Malaysia on 9 August 1965.

Singapore has never forgotten the painful episode and the importance of multiculturalism and harmony. Today, multiculturalism is a key foundation of Singapore's identity and is enshrined in our National Pledge: '... regardless of race, language or religion'.

We commemorate Racial Harmony Day each year in school. This year, the theme is Multiculturalism, and we seek to let our students understand and embrace the diversity of our various ethnic cultures that together make us Singaporean.
